“美しいオリジナル状態を保った奇跡のようなSSS”

ここに紹介する1968年式 NISSAN BLUEBIRD 1600SSS (510型)は、2オーナーでオリジナルの状態を非常に美しく残したノンレストアの個体です。ファーストオーナー様が新車で手に入れて以降、平成26年に手放すまで40年以上オリジナルの状態を保ちながら、大切に維持されてきました。その後にセカンドオーナー様の元で2年を過ごしたあと、当ビンゴスポーツへやってまいりました。

まず外装ですが、ノンレストアのオリジナル状態であるとともに大変に綺麗なコンディションを保っており、レストレーション済みの車両に比べて、独特の風合いのあるエクステリアになっています。オリジナルの初期モデル特有の状態を細部に至るまで保っており、いわゆるケンカワイパーとやや小ぶりなテールランプが最大の外観上の特徴となります。足元のホイールキャップも当時のオリジナルの物をそのまま装着しています。50年近くが経過した車両ですが、錆びやすいとされる箇所にも錆は見受けられませんでした。

インテリアに目を移しても綺麗なオリジナルコンディションという印象は変わりません。インストゥルメントパネルやダッシュボードなど、ここにも初期モデルにしか無いディテールを備えています。純正のラジオもそのまま残されており、当時オプションだったクーラーも正常な動作を確認済みです。その他の内装もシート・ステアリング・フロアマットに至るまで全てフルオリジナルです。

それと乗り降りの際に気がついたのですが、数十年を経た旧車特有の”ドアが下がる”という兆候を全く認められなかったのは、新車から大切に扱われたとともに、オリジナルを保ちいたずらに改造等が行われなかった何よりの証でしょう。

機関に関しては、L16型ツインキャブレターのエンジンも快調に上まで吹け上がり、キャブ調整がしっかり行われてきたという印象です。とてもおよそ50年前の車両とは思えない素晴らしいメンテナンス状態で、二人のオーナー様とも深い愛情を注いだ事がわかります。

足回りもへたりが無く、当時からそうだったであろう小気味良いステアリングレスポンスを楽しめました。エンジンルームの眺めも初期モデルのタペットカバーやラジエーターにそれ以降のモデルとの違いを見つけることが出来ます。

驚いたのが、付属のサービスダイヤルというファイルの中に、当時の保証証券と取扱説明書が傷みの無い状態で残っていたことです。このブルーバードを目にして、奇跡の車両だと感じた理由の一つです。

年月を重ねるにつれ、どのような車であれオリジナルの状態を保つのは難しくなってきます。レストアを受けて綺麗によみがえることはあるでしょうが、オリジナルのまま美しさを保つのは至難の業でしょう。2名のオーナー様の愛情溢れるケアにより、この1600SSSは50年近くが経った今でも変わらぬ、オリジナルならではの味のある素晴らしいコンディションの中にあります。千載一隅という言葉はこのような時にこそ使うものだと、改めて感じさせる一台です。

The 1968 NISSAN BLUEBIRD 1600SSS (Type 510) offered here is a two-owner example that retains beautiful original condition and has never been restored.　The example had been beautifully preserved for over 40 years since it was acquired new by the first owner before he sold it to the next care taker.　The second ownership lasted about two years before it came to Bingo Sports.　
　
The exterior has been kept in excellent original condition that shows us beautiful patina unlike artificial perfection exhibited by restored examples.　It features every single detail that can only be found in early original individuals such as opposingly-directed windshield wipers and slightly-smaller tail lenses.　Even wheel caps have survived almost 50 years of ownership combined and still remain original.　Equally phenomenal is that there is no detectable rust or corrosion on its 48-year-old body.
　
The fully-original interior is in great condition as well, with the distinctive details of early examples found in instrument cluster, dashboard and such.　The original radio is still in place and the optional air conditioning works just fine.　In addition, very much everything including seats, steering wheel, and floor mats retains the original condition.
　
Also outstanding is that the doors show no sign of drooping, the typical symptom of classic vehicles from decades ago.　It is most likely the proof that the car has been respectfully treated and kept original unlike many other examples that were heavily molested.
　
The mechanical part is no less impressive, either.　The type L16 twin-carbureted in-line 4 gives the impression that the car has been carefully taken care of by both owners when it revs up lively toward its red line thanks in large part to the thoroughly serviced carburetors.　It is way beyond our imagination that a 50-year-old car can be in as good a condition as this one is.
　
The suspension is yet to show degradation and the crisp steering response is nothing but joy as it probably was when delivered new.　Inside the engine compartment, pieces like the head cover and radiator have a look that is peculiar to the early examples to differentiate itself from the late individuals.
　
What is more, we were left with our mouths wide open when we found both an instruction manual and warranty booklet undamaged.　That is one of the reasons why we saw this car worthy of being called a miracle find.
　
As time passes since the point of delivery, it becomes tougher and tougher for any owner to keep his car both original and beautiful at the same time though good restoration may rejuvenate it.　After almost 50 years since its birth, this 1600SSS still retains excellent original condition as a result of warm and loving care taken by the previous owners.　Coming across this car made us realize that it is exactly what we call one in a million chances.
